Europe, like other parts of the world, has been hit hard by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In this context, CEN is preparing a new document presenting guidelines and recommendations for the safe operation and management of fitness centers during an infectious outbreak – now and during future pandemics. Its development is meant to support Europeans in maintaining their health and to guide the fitness sector in its decision-making so that its facilities are safe to use by both customers and staff.
While countries have developed their own national guidelines to control the spread of the coronavirus, it has become clear that these documents often differ in their application. With an unambiguous European guideline in the form of CEN Technical Specification (CEN/TS) ‘Guidance for safe operations during an infectious outbreak', the Working Group CEN/TC 136/WG 2 'Fitness Centers' plans to offer guidance in:
minimising the spread of the infectious virus;
supporting the health and safety of fitness centers’ employees and customers;
providing clarity and grow confidence in the fitness industry.
In order to cover all essential elements of adjusted fitness operations, CEN/TC 136 WG 2 would like to welcome new experts in the fields of:
Virology
Epidemiology
Public health
Membership systems (incl. data protection issues)
Control of aerosol contamination
Professional cleaning services
With the knowledge of such experts, WG 2 hopes to provide the fitness sector on the short term with a complete and comprehensive guide through these challenging times.
